What is KC certification

The Korean Ministry of Knowledge Economy (MKE) announced on August 25, 2008 that the Korean National Standards Committee will implement a new national unified logo from July 2009 to December 2010.

KC certification is a new national unified logo implemented in South Korea. It is a safety certification system for electrical and electronic appliances in South Korea. It is a mandatory safety certification implemented by the Korea Institute of Technology and Standards (KATS) in accordance with the Electrical Appliances and Materials Safety Management Act on January 1, 2009. system.

The Korea Technology and Standards Agency, which is part of the Korean Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, establishes the legal framework for market access for various consumer products to ensure consumer safety. In addition, the agency is responsible for developing new standards and coordinating Korea's role in the unification of international standards.

KC certification mandatory/voluntary

According to the "Korea Electrical Appliances and Materials Safety Management Law", since January 1, 2009, electrical appliance safety certification is divided into two types: compulsory certification and self-discipline (voluntary) certification.

Compulsory certification means that all electronic products that are compulsory products must obtain KC Mark certification before they can be sold in the Korean market, and are subject to factory inspections and product sampling tests every year.

Self-regulatory (voluntary) certification means that all electronic products that are voluntary products only need to be tested to obtain a certificate, and do not need to undergo factory inspection. The certificate is valid for 5 years.

KC Certification Scope

Scope of product certification: electrical products with an input voltage between 50-1000, according to the IECEE classification method, including wire and cable, electrical switches, capacitors and power filters, household insulation transformers, power tools, household appliances, etc., electronic entertainment and information technology equipment (IT), etc.).

KC Certified Factory Review

First factory inspection: After accepting the product certification application, the factory needs to conduct the first factory inspection, and conduct a preliminary assessment of the factory's quality control system.

Annual factory review: After the certificate is issued, the certification body will conduct an annual follow-up review of the factory, with the purpose of reviewing the consistency of the factory's quality control system and whether it can continue to meet safety standards.

Sampling inspection: There are 216 kinds of products included in the KC mark compulsory certification so far. The Korean Safety Law stipulates that all kinds of products are sampled every year, so each product is sampled once a year.
